Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Database engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Database engineer, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and architecting database schemas, with a primary focus on PostgreSQL and other databases. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of our database solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain database schemas for adhering to best practices and scalability principles.
2. Architect database schemas to support the scalability and performance requirements.
3. Optimize database schemas for efficiency and performance, including indexing strategies, query optimization, and data normalization.
4. Collaborate closely with development teams, product managers, and system administrators to understand requirements and design appropriate database solutions.
5. Perform database performance tuning and monitoring to identify and address performance bottlenecks proactively.
6. Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of our data.
7. Evaluate and recommend new database technologies, tools, and best practices to improve the performance and efficiency of our database solutions.
8. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior database administrators and developers within the team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Database Engineer or similar role, with a strong focus on database design, optimization, and administration.
3. Expertise in developing and optimizing database schemas, particularly in PostgreSQL.
4. Solid understanding of database architecture principles, including data modelling, normalization, and indexing.
5. Proficiency in SQL programming and database query optimization techniques.
6. Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring tools.
7. Strong knowledge of database security best practices and techniques.
8. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
9. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in database administration or related field (e.g., PostgreSQL Certified Engineer).
- Experience with other database technologies, such as MySQL, Oracle, or MongoDB.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database services, such as Amazon RDS.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for database automation and deployment.
